The winter months are actually very popular for booking family sessions. A lot of times people are traveling home, and getting together with their full family. Sometimes it’s because you get time off work, so it makes it easy to pick a day to take pictures. Another popular reason is because prograstination. I get it! It can be hard to do. And eventually you realize you haven’t taken family pictures and you want to send out a holiday card.

Winter sessions are STUNNING, but they are hard to plan if you live in a place like Utah. The weather can be SO unpredictable. Sometimes it snows in October, and sometimes we don’t have snow until after Christmas. Some of our best advice for making a winter session successful is to just book a studio. 1. Cold Weather = Sad Kids — As soon as the weather gets cold, sessions inside Station Studio, here in Logan, become a big hit! It’s not impossible to take pictures outside in the cold weather. In fact, some of my favorite sessions are in the snow in the winter, but you do have to be very dedicated. A lot of times it’s just going to be easier to stay inside so the kids stay happy.
2. Pretty Even Light — Photographing in the snow can actually be really hard. The snow is really reflective, which means you’re going to see a lot of different colors in it. It’s hard to make the snow look white while everyone’s skin tones are the correct color. When you’re shooting in a studio during the winter months, you don’t have to worry about everyone looking washed out because you are going to have nice even light.
3. Don’t Have To Worry About Rescheduling — When you decided to schedule a studio for your family session in the winter, you don’t have to worry about rescheduling. You may have to take work off a few hours early
