Bride Tip • Perfect Wedding Shoe

Say YES to the SHOES

High heels? Flats? What about some high-top Converse? It can be a daunting task deciding what shoe would be best for YOU on your special day.

One bride had a great idea. She decided to wear heels for the ceremony and all of her pictures, but then change into some Toms when it came time for dancing. Her pumps were gorgeous. Fantastic pictures. Wonderful memories. No woman in the room could stop talking about them. When it was over and time for dinner and dancing, she changed into her sparkly Toms like planned. When suddenly she realized her dress was 4 inches too long. Oops! But she wasn’t going to let a few inches of material ruin her night!

Then in the middle of Pitbull’s “Timber” she slipped on her dress and took a little timber of her own. For 5 seconds while she was regaining her footing, everyone around her, including her father and new father-in-law, saw what fancy red lingerie was planned for her evening. She was able to come out of it with a great Most Embarrassing Moment story. But this definitely teaches that the right shoe really can make all of the difference.

When it comes to finding the right shoe, there isn’t one style that works for every bride. It is important to view your options and pick what is best for you. Obviously from the Timber story, keep in mind the length of your dress will change if you change out those pumps. Take your shoes wedding dress shopping! Other important attributes to consider are comfort, beauty, and price.

COMFORT

Easily one of the most important qualities your shoe needs to have. You will be in these kicks all day long. If you are trying on shoes and feel even a little uncomfortable, do NOT go with that pair because after walking and sweating in them for an entire day the pain intensifies by 100. Consider how dancing is going to feel on your feet. Are you planning on running at all? Maybe when you and the groom are headed to the car for sendoff? Think your day through so you know exactly what you will be putting those feet though.

Also a MUST… Practice walking in them before the big day! It will give the shoes a chance to form around your feet. Plus, if there are any spots that are rubbing and could potentially form into a blister, you know exactly where to put some skin protector pads. You can buy some heel pads from Amazon Prime here. Many of my brides also swear by Moleskin which can be picked up for $5 at Walgreens or Walmart!

BEAUTY

It is your wedding day. Obviously, today is about you – it is your time to shine. And the perfect shoe is one step closer to making sure everything is, well, PERFECT. If your personality is the go with the flow, comfy party style, some sparkly Toms may be just what you are looking for! If you are thinking, this is my day… “No pain, No gain” – give me those pumps! Then do it.

Regardless of what shoe you will be styling, get a PEDICURE. If those toes are showing all day you will want them to be looking their best. But what if you are going with some Neon Converse? I still recommend a pedicure. I cannot tell you how many of my brides end of dancing barefoot (even though they planned not too). Also, it is honeymoon night. Having some dazzling toes will help you feel more confident!

As a professional photographer, I have been to hundreds of weddings and have seen it all. Don’t stress too much over what style of kicks are for you. The most beautiful wedding shoes are those that match the bride’s personality. YOU make the shoes.

Where to go to find YOUR perfect shoes:

By now you have thought through your day and have an idea of what shoes are right for you. Next step, where to get them and at what price!

If you are on a tight budget, I would not spend a lot of money on shoes. I have had brides wear shoes they already own even! But if you are wanting a new pair of kicks there are some great local places to check out. I recommend Kohls, Fashion Box, Payless, or TJ Maxx!

Don’t hope that you can get shoes at the same time as you get your dress. Most wedding dress shops here in Logan have a very old, limited collection, if they carry any at all. Have your shoes beforehand and take them dress shopping with you!
