Pinterest. Inspiration Blogs. Instagram. Perfectly curated wedding feeds all around us. “Ideal” Clients.
Because there is so much emphasize on LOOKING perfect and attracting Pinterest-worthy weddings, photographers are forgetting what is MOST important. To me making the bride – any and all brides – feel like a real life princess on her wedding day is most important. No matter how old (or young), no matter how big the budget, no matter how many wedding details. Every bride is important, every wedding is beautiful, all stories deserve to be told. Every bride is beautiful. That doesn’t mean we have to agree with their wedding colors or styles always, but make sure you’re focusing on making them feel like a billion bucks no matter what they choose on THEIR day.
We blog EVERY single engagement session, bridal session and full wedding on our blog because we believe that EVERY wedding is beautiful. Not all photographers agree with our method, and I’ve heard many teach the opposite. To us every story deserves to be told. All brides are pretty enough. Any wedding can be photographed to show a beautiful story. Once I had a bride who was DREADING being in front of the camera tell me how beautiful she felt during her session and ended with “if you think these are pretty enough, you can put them on your website!” Of course she went on my blog because she is important, and beautiful and the world needs to see more of that. Real people celebrating real beauty.
Photographers, don’t get caught up in the curated Instagram feeds and inspiration blogs. Celebrate REAL BEAUTY. It’s not our job to take picture of beautiful people, it’s to make ALL people look and FEEL beautiful no matter what.
PS You can make any and all weddings Pinterest worthy while still celebrating real, true beauty.
