Now that we have set our intentions for the year, let’s talk about habits.
I know you’ve heard that it takes 21 days to form a habit, we’ve all heard it somewhere but can we remember where it came from? It actually takes 65 DAYS for a person to learn a habit, that’s almost two months!
But don’t let that get you down. Every person is different, and it can take 20-200+ days for a habit to actually stick for a person because we all learn differently and because each habit can vary in difficulty.
Getting into the repetition a new habit can help you focus on your intention for the new year. Choosing a new-year intention and matching that with a daily habit helps us to relish in the process of changing. Instead of worrying about the check-lists of resolutions, one simple habit helps us to just “be.”
So let’s choose a habit that matches your new-year intention, so that we can start with a STRONG desire for change:
- If your intention is to be grateful, your habit could be to write in your gratitude journal daily.
- If your intention is to be more present, your habit could be to turn your phone off at 6:00 p.m. every night.
- If your intention is to be healthier, your habit could be to drink more water or eliminate a food from your diet.
- If your intention is to be inspired, listen to a new podcast from a new genre everyday.
You get the point.
So instead of focusing the result, like “lose 10 pounds” or “make lots of money,” you are focusing on the process.
A lot of you have taken my 90 Days of Marketing Course. Its basically my marketing course cut up into bite-sized, daily habits and action plans to market your business.
I was finding that the people who were taking my courses were learning how to market their business, but still not showing up. Even if you know how to do something, you have to show up daily. The point of 90 Days of Marketing is not to get followers or more business, but that is a natural consequence of showing up every day, just like losing weight is a natural consequence of eating healthier or exercising.
We have to focus on the process.
