Maternity Family Photos in Preston Idaho | The Funk Family’s Sweet Growing Season

This maternity family photos in Preston Idaho session with the Funk family felt extra special for me because I’ve photographed this family so many times over the years. Between newborn sessions, family photos, and extended family portraits, I’ve honestly lost count at this point—but every session with them still feels like catching up with old friends.

And now they’re adding another little one.

Watching families grow over the years is one of my favorite parts of this job, and this session felt full of that excitement and anticipation that comes right before everything changes in the sweetest way.

One thing I absolutely love about family maternity sessions is that they tell a bigger story than traditional maternity portraits alone.

Yes, we’re documenting pregnancy and this season before baby arrives, but we’re also capturing the relationship between parents and the children who are about to become older siblings. Those little interactions end up meaning so much later.

For the Funk family, the session felt playful, connected, and completely natural. The kids already seemed excited about the new baby, and that energy showed up throughout the gallery in such sweet ways.

Instead of making the session feel overly posed, we focused on movement, cuddles, conversation, and genuine interaction.

That’s always where the magic happens anyway.

Why repeat family clients make sessions feel extra meaningful

Honestly, there’s something really emotional about photographing the same family over and over again through different stages of life.

I’ve photographed the Funk family through newborn seasons, growing kids, family milestones, and extended family sessions, so documenting this pregnancy felt especially meaningful because I’ve watched their story unfold little by little over the years.

That familiarity changes the energy of a session in the best way.

Everyone feels more relaxed. The kids already know me. Parents don’t feel pressure to “perform” for the camera. The whole experience starts feeling more like spending time together than posing for photos.

And because of that, the images always feel more connected and genuine.

Preston Idaho maternity sessions with a relaxed feel

Preston is such a beautiful place for family and maternity photography because everything naturally feels calm and open. The soft light, surrounding farmland, and mountain views create such a timeless Northern Idaho and Cache Valley feel without needing anything overly elaborate.

For this session, we kept everything simple and focused on connection instead of heavy styling or dramatic posing.

That approach fit the Funk family perfectly.

Some of my favorite moments from the session were the in-between interactions—kids snuggling up to mom, little laughs between poses, and the quieter moments where everyone just naturally settled into each other.

Those are always the images families treasure most years later.

Why maternity family photos matter so much

Pregnancy changes family dynamics in such a unique way because everyone is standing right on the edge of a completely new season. There’s excitement, anticipation, and usually a little bit of chaos too.

That’s why I love documenting this stage before the newborn phase begins.

These sessions preserve what life looked like right before another little personality joined the family story.

I photograph maternity family photos in Preston Idaho and throughout Preston, Cache Valley, and Northern Utah, and sessions like this always remind me why family photography matters so much over time.

The Funk family brought so much warmth, trust, and joy into this session, and I already know their next season is going to be such a beautiful one.

If you’re expecting and want maternity photos that feel relaxed, emotional, and genuinely connected to your family right now, I’d love to help you document this season. Reach out through my contact page and let’s plan your session.
