Snowbasin Family Pictures | Utah Winter Family Pictures | Spencer Family

Snowbasin Family Pictures | Utah Winter Family Pictures | Spencer Family

Heidi sent me a message on Instagram a few weeks ago asking if there were still pretty places for family pictures. In Logan we had some really easy and accessible locations for family pictures in the winter. As I have transitioned down to Davis county I’ve had to find all new spots and it has been so much fun. My inspiration for these Snowbasin Family Pictures was to give this family beautiful pine trees, and a view of the mountains. We accomplished both.]

If you aren’t from Utah you might not be familiar with our winters. We start getting snow in October and it lasts clear until May. But a lot of times the snow melts down in the valley after the storm has passed. A lot of the trees are dead and it can just look drab. But as a photographer that goes up the canyon every week for different shoots I was like “HEAVENS YES”. We live in one of THEE coolest states and we get the prettiest pictures year round.

We headed up to Snowbasin Resort for the family pictures. When we got there every single parking spot was full. People were parking on the streets and hiking in to the resort. I was a little worried about what we were going to do, but I found a little spot that we were supposed to park and told my couple that we would move immediately if we got asked. I knew that we only needed a few minutes in this beautiful secluded area.

I’m so glad we snuck into these pine trees because it gave us some privacy from the crowds and made it so that we could have a more intimate setting for the pictures. We started out with all the smiling at the camera pictures. After we got enough of those pictures we started in with all the fun candid shots. I love winter because kids can’t help but play in the snow. It’s easy to get fun pictures by having them throw snow towards me, it’s a little harder in the summer when my only option is to have them throw rocks, haha.

This family was probably my easiest family that I have ever photographed. It felt like we were just hanging out on a Saturday, having a snowball fight.

If any of you photographers want help with finding winter locations feel free to send me a message on Instagram. You can find me at @hiliary.kastudios.
