I LOVE PAPPER APPAREL
I am so excited to buy the pinafore dress and cute socks and Leo for my next family pictures!! Just the absolute cutest ever.
Today I wanted to talk about styling flat lays! This is just something I have started doing this year. It has been so fun to learn and help brands sell their products through awesome flat lays!
A flat lay is a picture of the product taken from above. It can be styled with different props to help market and advertise the product in a creative and interesting way. Flat lay images are the best type of images to post on social media for customers to see the product. The results our clients have with flat lay images are amazing!
I want to talk about some of the different techniques and we use to make sure we take amazing flat lay images! At our studio, we have loads of props, styling material, florals, flat lay boards, and different surfaces to use for styling flat lays.
Lets say we are taking pictures of summer outfits for kids and babies. We can use baby items to help style the photo and also props relating to the season. It is important to use props and styling material that make sense for that product. It is also important to know the colors and style of the brand you are photographing. The brands share this information with us in a questionnaire before the shoot.
We also pay extra attention to carefully arranging the props and balancing out the photo. We don’t want to distract from the product because of the props. We want to enhance the product through styling it with props! We often use different techniques for styling, such as scattering a group of products, lining it up, putting it in an S share or styling it with props in groupings of 3 in appealing arrangements.
It is really important to make sure the lighting is flattering for the flat lay shots. Harsh shadows or the photo being too dark can distract from the product and cause it to not look its best even if it is a really high quality product. We take our flat lay images with natural light thanks to the awesome windows in the studio that provide bright, even light.
When editing flat lays, we edit them true to color. For portrait photography, we often make coloring adjustments to the photographs to enhance the beautiful features in the photo, but with product photography, We make basic adjustments to make the the coloring is exact to what the products color is!
Flat lays are a great way for businesses to market and advertise to their customers in an interesting and create way! We love working with brands and helping them show off their products through flat lays!
