Bride Tip • The First Look

THE BIG REVEAL

The First Look is a big deal. All at once, your months and months of pinning and planning funnels into a single moment shared just by you and your fiancé. Everything stops, the stress disappears, and FINALLY this is all starting to seem real. You are getting married!

We ALWAYS recommend that our brides choose to include a first look at the beginning of their formal session. It is such an intimate and special moment that many of my Kylee Ann brides later tell me are some of their most meaningful photos. The First Look should be done away from a large group of people. This way, when the groom finally gets to see his bride for the first time, you both can have an intimate experience where you can freely express what you mean to each other.

Here are The First Look Tips:

  1. Decide early if you plan to keep the dress a secret. Make sure to keep pictures of the dress hidden on your phone in case there is a chance of him seeing it on accident.
  2. Plan to arrive in two different cars! If this isn’t possible with driving time, you might be able to change into your dress on location. Have your mom or friend or bridesmaid come to drive and lend a hand, but only bring someone that you will be able to be comfortable in front of.
  3. Have the groom show up at the session start time, and plan to be there 5 mins later. Plan hair and makeup early enough in the day to not be late and miss the window of gold light!
  4. Write a short love note to your groom to read just before he sees you to help build the emotion of the moment.
  5. I generally take a few photos from various angles around you both standing there. Be advised that first looks are fairly posed, up until the groom turns around.
  6. For the groom: The first look isn’t supposed to be a big pressured reaction. Its just the first time to get to see your wife in her wedding dress. Smile, kiss and hug her. Tell her what you think of her in the dress. I’ll take over from there!!
  7. If you hire a videographer: Videographer’s usually do multiple takes of the first look so it will take longer, so be sure to let your photographer know to plan on some extra time.
  8. Another approach to a first look is to shake up the roles and have the bride turn around to see the groom in his suit! Feel free to make this moment perfect for you and your love story! the first look dress reveal the first look dress reveal photography the first look dress reveal the first look pictures How to do a First Look or Dress Reveal the first look dress reveal
