In the world of family photography, every moment captured is a story waiting to be told. But, some stories resonate deeper, touching hearts and spreading awareness. As a Davis County family photographer, I’ve had the honor of capturing countless beautiful moments for families of all backgrounds. Recently, I had the privilege of capturing such a sweet family to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Day!

Ella and her incredible parents are so important to me. Maggie is my baby sister, and Ella is my niece – she’s blessed with a little bit extra! Ella has Trisomy 21, and has fought a hard CHD battle. Ella spent months in the hospital at the end of last year, fought hard in the ICU as she recovered from open heart surgery, and is now absolutely thriving! It made me emotional to capture their sweet smiles knowing first hand how hard they have all fought the past 7 months. We cried with each other, prayed for our Schofield Family, held each other, and did all we could to carry them through such a difficult challenge. I may be bias, but I think Ella is the sweetest baby girl I have ever seen!

Down Syndrome Awareness Day is a day dedicated to raising awareness and celebrating individuals with Down Syndrome! It’s a day to promote inclusion, acceptance, and understanding. For the Schofield Family, it was an opportunity to showcase their love and pride for sweet Ella! Our entire family rocked our mismatched socks on March 21st to also show our support!

As a Davis County family photographer, I approached these types of sessions with great care and sensitivity. I want to ensure that every image captures the essence of the family’s love and the joy they find in one another. From candid moments of laughter to tender embraces.

Through the art of photography, I have the ability to spread awareness and promote positive change. As Ella’s aunt Abi, I hope to challenge stereotypes and foster greater understanding of Down Syndrome and other disabilities! Every image from the Schofield Family’s Down Syndrome Awareness Day in Davis County session tells a story, and it’s my hope that these stories will inspire others to embrace diversity and celebrate the beauty of every individual!
