Coordinating Colors for Extended Family Pictures
What to wear for your next Extended Family Picture session??
Spring and summer are always the biggest times for us as Utah and Idaho Bear Lake Extended Family Photographers! When we’re visiting with our cute clients over email, a super common worry is what to wear. There’s so much pressure! And if you have a lot of family members it can be trickier to coordinate. And add in family in different cities and states and WOW! Suddenly just getting everyone dressed feels too overwhelming and the pictures never get booked. Which is heartbreaking to us as photographers! We want you to have these family memories!!
So I’m here today bringing you some easy tips on getting everyone coordinated so outfits are a breeze!
The number one suggestion I have for that question is always to pick two neutrals and a color! This gives you enough variety and a pop of fun if you want it!
Dressing twenty plus people means you’re going to have a hard time getting exact matches. So unless it’s in your budget to buy all matching things (which we do have families do and it’s darling!)
Then don’t stress over it! Now, what actually are neutrals???
White – gray – cream – tan – beige – black
These are all basic colors almost everyone has already! Which is a huge help if you’re being budget conscious. If you want to further keep the cost of outfits down, pick denim as your COLOR! Everyone has it! Not only is it easily accessible, it’s timeless. You’ll always look back at those photos and love them!
Another way to do colors is by color families! You can go all warm colors (red, orange, yellow) or all cool colors (purples, blues, greens).
A few other color ways I’ve loved lately have been gem tones:
And pastels!
And look at this darling set of grandkids with grandma:
See all those pastels and denim? Divine! Don’t feel like you have to stick hard and fast two the 2:1 ratio I gave you. It’s just a great general starting point. You can go all neutral too! It’s a super popular color way right now.
You can have all the colors! Anything! Just don’t make it overwhelming for yourselves. Book that shoot and come have fun with us!
I would love to be your next Bear Lake reunion photographer, your next Cache Valley Extended Family Photographer, or anywhere in-between! I hope these tips have been helpful and thanks for reading!!
