Must Read Parenting Books

I’m still new to this parenting gig. But five joyful, exhausting years of parenting can teach you a lot. I have two VERY different children. Total opposites. It took me awhile to figure out that I needed to be a different parent for Brody than I was for Piper. One of my biggest parenting challenges, but greatest rewards. Getting to know and parent my children for their unique personalities has been the best thing I could ever learn. And I didn’t do it on my own!

These are my top four must read parenting books. Especially if you’re a young mom like me still trying to figure out your kids.

#1 MUST READ for ALL Parents & Mankind: The Child Whisperer

This book changed EVERYTHING ABOUT MY PARENTING!!! It will help you figure out what energy type your children have and how to parent them uniquely. It will make you appreciate your child’s personality and learn to love every part of them even more.

The Ultimate Handbook for Raising Happy, Successful, and Cooperative Children
“Maybe it’s the tantrum at the store, or the hour-long bedtime battle, or the head-scratcher of getting your child to eat veggies. You wonder what on Earth to do, so you get advice, read books, watch videos, ask the internet. And still, something’s missing.”

“You need a plan that addresses your child’s needs, not everyone else’s. Why couldn’t children come with a handbook? Turns out, children are born with a handbook they are the handbook. The Child Whisperer reveals that the key to raising happy, healthy, cooperative children lies in understanding and responding to a child’s inner nature.”

– Have a happier, more cooperative child, using less discipline
– Foster more confidence and natural success in your child
– Repair trouble parent/teen relationships
– Reconnect with your adult childrenMust Read Parenting Books

#2 For Parents of the the Sensitive Child: Highly Sensitive Child

After reading the Child Whisperer, I discovered I had a highly sensitive child and I am a highly sensitive person. I wanted to dive into this type of child even further to learn how to parent my Brody boy.  If you find out your child has type two personality, definitely read this book next!

Helping Our Children Thrive When The World Overwhelms Them
The Highly Sensitive Child shows how HSCs are born deeply reflective, sensitive to the subtle, and easily overwhelmed. These qualities can make for smart, conscientious, creative children, but with the wrong parenting or schooling, they can become unusually shy or timid, or begin acting out. Few parents and teachers understand where this behavior comes from-and as a result, HSCs are often mislabeled as overly inhibited, fearful, or “fussy,”or classified as “problem children” (and in some cases, misdiagnosed with disorders such as Attention Deficit Disorder). But raised with proper understanding and care, HSCs are no more prone to these problems than nonsensitive children and can grow up to be happy, healthy, well-adjusted adults.

– The challenges of raising an highly sensitive child
– The four keys to successfully parenting an HSC
– How to soothe highly sensitive infants
– Helping sensitive children survive in a not-so-sensitive world
– Making school and friendships enjoyable

#3 The 5 Love Languages of Children

Knowing someone’s love language is so powerful because you can make someone feel loved in the way they feel that love. Its been a game changer with my marriage and my children knowing and using their love languages.

“Now discover how to speak your child’s love language in a way that he or she understands. Dr. Gary Chapman and Dr. Ross Campbell help you:”

– Discover your child’s love language
– Assist your child in successful learning
– Use the love languages to correct and discipline more effectively
– Build a foundation of unconditional love for your child

#4 How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk

This is actually the first parenting book I ever read. It was a great way to figure out how to talk to my child so he didn’t constantly go into melt downs or tantrums.

“This bestselling classic includes fresh insights and suggestions as well as the author’s time-tested methods to solve common problems and build foundations for lasting relationships, including innovative ways to:”

– Cope with your child’s negative feelings, such as frustration, anger, and disappointment
– Express your strong feelings without being hurtful
– Engage your child’s willi ng cooperation
– Set firm limits and maintain goodwill
– Use alternatives to punishment that promote self-discipline
– Understand the difference between helpful and unhelpful praise
– Resolve family conflicts peacefully
