The Kylee Ann Photography Blog is about to get a ton more interesting. Let me explain in reverse order. Fridays will be “Personal Fridays” (aka “Brody Friday”) where I get to share any personal story, photos, vacations or thoughts that I want. Thursdays will be “The PhotogBlog” posts, which will be tips and tricks to taking better pictures. These tips and tricks will vary between every day picture taking tips and professional photographers material. Mondays will switch between “Guest Post Monday” and “Inspirational Monday.”
I have guest speakers lined up halfway through the year already from all different categories: photography, parenting, homemaking, relationships, fashion and more. Be excited. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and weekends will be open for Client Spotlights. I will still be blogging lots of sessions with their accompanying behind the scene stories, but not everything.
Also, welcome to full-width posts…I love it.
Nikon to Canon
Yep it’s true… I’m making the switch from Nikon to Canon. I’ve seen snippets of conversation about the big Nikon D800 and 5D Mark III here and there but never thought I’d actually do it. I’ve spent three years defending my brand and calling myself a Nikon girl. Then I started entering 5D Mark III giveaways with my fingers secretly crossed thinking it was my only chance. The thought of rebuilding my collection of expensive lenses and bodies still hurts my head. If it was up to me, I would probably stayed chicken forever but thankfully my husband made it for me by blowing the Christmas budget…again. My conversion from Nikon to Canon will be a PhotogBlog in the near future.
Bye Bye Mini Sessions all year round, Hello Discount Days
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE mini sessions. They are long enough to get amazing pictures, but short enough to keep attention spans and prevent meltdowns. However, the anytime, anywhere mini sessions ended up being the same amount of work, time and photos as a full session and not compensated accordingly.
From now on, the only mini sessions I will be doing will be called “Discount Days” These discount days will be every six months or quarterly and done on location only. This means I will choose the location (I’m open to requests in advance), limit the amount of sessions and schedule back to back on one day only. If you’d like to be notified before Facebook, please leave a comment with your email address and location (i.e. WA or UT or wherever you want me to travel next).
New Packages & Packaging
Let me tell you a little secret. In ten years DVDs probably aren’t going to exist. In fact, my work computer that I do all the editing, blogging and marketing from does not have a DVD drive. It is BREAKING MY HEART hearing that my clients from a year+ ago still have their images on a DVD in their drawer or saved on a hard drive somewhere. This is going to change. I want you to have pictures you can hold in your hand and pass down from generation to generation. I am teaming up with a professional lab to offer you beautiful, archival textured prints, canvas and my personal fave: proof boxes. Also, all my 2014 clients will have upgraded PASS galleries aka free “download all” galleries that will be available to share for 1 full year.
Scheduling & Payment
I will be scheduling 3-4 months out. If you’d like pictures in the spring, make sure you are scheduling them in the winter. Payment will be required at the time of booking your session to reserve the date. I will only be taking two sessions maximum per week (not including discount days.)
Workshops & Classes
I will be focusing on teaching a lot this year. I teach an introduction to photography course at Bridgerland Applied Technical College. I also will be teaching one-day workshops throughout the year for those who want to better their photography skills or photography business but don’t have time for the photography class. The Portrait Photography course is for those interested in camera basics, manual settings, composition, lighting and posing. The Business of Photography Workshop will focus on financial and legal requirements, organizing your business, building a brand, social media and website, goal setting and basic steps to starting a photography business.

All of my 2014 brides will be getting a super fabulous, information-packed wedding packet. Not only does it include all sorts of fun wedding planning documents but a little gift as well. Watch for a blog this month with all the fun details.
