Bear Lake Family Pictures – Rich

I had THREE Bear Lake Family Pictures on this night. The first one didn’t even bother coming because it was SO stormy and dark. The second one turned around after driving an hour in the POURING rain. And the third risked it and survived! We had a ten-ish minute break in the storm and we just went for it. And I am SO happy we did. They were stunning! Leah does such a good job picking the cutest outfits. And the kids were TROOPERS.

Here are five tips for preparing for family pictures with a professional photographer that will ensure that your pictures look amazing and that you feel great about them.

1. Dress Up

When preparing for family pictures, dress up! Choose outfits that are a bit more formal or polished than what you would typically wear. Keep in mind that these pictures will be hanging on your walls, displayed on social media, and framed on your desk. Consider adding a little bit more makeup than usual and wearing some statement jewelry to add pop to your look.

2. Choose Complementing Colors

When choosing the color scheme for your family photo, start with one favorite outfit and build the rest around it. Consider using one main color scheme and then add in accent colors. Using complementary colors creates a cohesive look and feel to your photo and is visually attractive and interesting to the eye. However, avoid patterns that are too busy as they can distract from the composition of the photo.

3. Avoid Distracting Clothing

To avoid having your viewers’ eyes stray from your family photo, avoid clothing that has big logos or lots of writing on it. These distractions cause the viewer’s eyes to move away from you and serves as nothing more than a distraction.

4. Accessorize

Accessorizing adds depth and personality to your family photo. You might consider adding hats, scarves, watches, jewelry, and belts, or jackets to spice things up. You can even use these accessories to tell a story, such as one family member’s favorite watch passed down from generations.

5. Wear Clothing You Are Comfortable In

Remember to wear clothing that you feel comfortable in and represents you or your family. Consider wearing clothes that show off your personality and make you feel confident. Take note of anything that you feel self-conscious about and avoid it as it could affect the flow of the photo.
