What have you learned today? Can you pin point one thing that you have learned or relearned JUST today that can apply and help your photography or business? If this post is the first thing you are reading today, its okay if the answer is no. I’m excited to share some tips about how to continually be learning and boosting your business with education over the next few weeks with this series!
Boost Business Education Series Tips
Workshops!
The fastest and most effective way to boost your business quickly is by attending a in person workshop. Business owners who attend at least one IN-PERSON workshop in the first 1-3 years of business save considerable money and time in their business. By spending the money getting educated early, those business owners save time, effort and funds doing a lot of guess and check later on. Research workshops across the country to find one that will teach you the skills you want to master!
Read books!
Like I said above, gaining education should happen every single day and the easiest way to do so is by reading. Fill your mind and bookshelves with business, technical and self-care related topics. Set goals to read at least one new book a month. Join a business book club, like the one hosted in the Our Photog Blog Facebook group every month! Find our reading list here.
Podcasts!
I love to read books but I find that I am much more inclined to be an audio learner. When I’m headed to the gym or on a drive, I grab my headphones and download a few podcasts I’m interested in. Podcasts are sometimes hit or miss as far as usable content goes so be sure to listen to a lot of different varieties to find some you like. Beware that sometimes free content gets you exactly what you pay for it.
Facebook groups!
The world of photography is very different in recent years thanks to Facebook groups dedicated for photographers to collaborate or ask questions to people in their area or across the country. Joining in with a local forum provides an amazing source of knowledge concerning locations, ideas and overall business guidance. Choose 1-3 groups to follow and be active in on Facebook.
Find a mentor!
Often times, running a photography business means you are a one person show. Finding a mentor that can be a personal sounding board to decisions you make in your business. A mentor might be someone in the industry or not, but has more experience in certain arenas than you do. And most importantly, doesn’t have the emotional ties to your business that you do and can provide unbiased feedback.
