Are you ready to hear my number one newborn photography tip?
This is all you need to know. Capture the MUNDANE.
Those little things parents don’t think about when they are in the thick of it. Day to day life with a newborn. Those precious moments that feel like forever and a moment at the same time. Changing diapers, feeding, spit up, clothing change, swaddling, more diapers, snuggling, sleeping, feeding again…. Sometimes it feels like an endless cycle, especially when you have other little ones at home.
A few things to think about when capturing the mundane. How can I encompass every day life? Include The little things that might not be perfect. I’ll often keep taking pictures while the family is taking a break and giving the baby a bottle. Diaper and clothing changes. I also always love to include mom, dad or both putting baby into the Moses basket or crib. They definitely don’t always have to be real moments. As a photographer it is my job to at least mimic those real life moments and in the most efficient way possible. Let’s face it. Having a newborn is exhausting and it is my goal for my clients to come out of our session together feeling refreshed and happy that they were able to get out of the house for a little bit. I’m able to do that by having an idea of how the session will go, but also by going with the flow. This session was not just of a newborn and parents, but there were older siblings involved. These boys adored their baby brother, but also loved playing with toys and jumping on the bed. Capture both! The bed jumping and the bed snuggling. The contrast will show a richness and beauty that can’t be replicated.
