The best way to get natural expressions and capture candid moments during a family photo session is with action poses. Motion creates emotion. Making a family smile is much harder than giving them a reason to smile. When a family can relax, have fun and be themselves, their true emotions come through. I have three go-to action poses that bring out the family’s natural smiles every single time.
1. The tickle
When a family is looking stiff in their pose, I bring out the tickle fight. “Alright guys now, TICKLE FIGHT.” I continue to let them tickle until everyone has completely gotten into the action and forgot about the camera.
2. The run
I love when kids and families can run during their session. Sometimes it takes a few tries before they really loosen up, but once they do…magic happens.
3. The snuggle
This action pose brings new emotions to the session. Instead of laughter, it shows love. It brings out that sweet connection between the subjects.
