In websites like Baby Center, there is a section called Community where mom’s can ask and answer questions. Usually when I google something about my pregnancy like “more hormonal with second pregnancy” it takes me to one of these forums. Today, I googled this exact phrase but I might as well been taken to a Chinese website with all the acronyms getting passed back and forth. Every single thread and comment used an acronym! For example:
“With my DD my DH told me I was nicer. I think it’s because I was a FTM. My LO is due in September.”
After a little google search, I finally translated:
“With my darling daughter my dear husband told me I was nicer. I think it’s because I was a first time mom. My little one is due in September.”
Dear husband?! Darling daughter?! Little one?! Acronyms are meant to make things easier for people to understand. They are taking commonly used phrases and shortening them…like ASAP, BTW or IDK. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t go around calling my husband “dear husband” in every sentence especially during pregnancy ;)
So What to Expect When you are Expecting?
A new vocabulary! Trust me it doesn’t stop with DH and DD. Pretty soon you’ll be adding some pretty crazy words to your vocabulary and phrases that you never heard before like “effaced”, “mucus plug”, “stripped membranes” and other slightly gross/painful phrases. Also, you’ll start counting time by weeks until you deliver then everything will be measured in months.
How far along are you? you:16 weeks. other people: sooo like how many months is that?
How old is she? you: 24 months other people: uh… two?
