Choosing props for brand photo sessions

The props can make or break your brand photography session! Choosing props wisely is very important for your photo session! It is important to keep your brand photography cohesive throughout your marketing. I am sharing tips today on our brand photography blog about how we choose props that compliment your products instead of distracting from them.

Think about contrast 

Something I like to do when photographing brands is choose a color of prop that contrasts the product. If it is a light colored baby outfit, I like to photograph it on a dark color. Mebie baby stylists always choose the wall background depending on the color product we are photographing! They like to photograph darker products on lighter walls and lighter products on darker walls! This really helps the product to pop!

Add in other products you sell 

Another thing that I love about the Mebie Baby stylists is that they add adorable products that contrast and coordinate with other products. When photographing light colored outfits, they place the baby on the couch with a darker colored swaddle draped over the couch! It is adorable and makes both products stand out and it is visually interesting.

Think about your brand colors

It is really important to incorporate your brand colors into your photo sessions. In our questionnaire, we ask lots of questions and one of them is “What are your brand colors” If we don’t have flat lay boards that suit your needs, we round some up! Incorporating your brand colors into your brand shoot keeps your branding cohesive across all platforms.

Think about the overall look that you want 

Are you going for a light and airy look in your brand photography? BOHO? Neutral? Colorful and playful? These are all things to consider when choosing props for your brand session! When we are shooting brands that want a BOHO look, we add in textured rugs or plants that help achieve that look. When we are shooting brands with a lot of color in their branding, we add colored papers behind the models and use colorful boards for the flatlay images.
