Marriage Tip • Date Night Ideas

Date Night Ideas.

Do you and your spouse plan out a date night just for the two of you? If you are anything like my husband and I, it’s more of a Friday night at 5:00 “what do you want to do?” “I don’t know, what do you want to do?” And 10 minutes later we are watching Netflix reruns and actually just “chilling”. This is not letting us see each others personalities, nor is it very romantic or fun! But who has the time or energy to come up with exciting dates? Well now… you don’t have to. I hope you enjoy these fun Date Night Ideas as much as Colin and I have the last few weeks!

The Why:

Whether you’ve been married for 1 day, 6 months, or 50 years, date night NEEDS to be on your calendar. According to the United States National Marriage Project, when a couple has only one date night a week the level of happiness in marriage increases more than 300 per cent for both wives and husbands. And when couples do not make a commitment to spend that one-on-one quality time together, they are twice as likely to divorce as those who do. These numbers say it all. Date night is something that is being talked about by all the specialists. It is SO important!

“Having a relationship and not taking care of it is like having a car and expecting it to run even though you don’t stop for gas,” says Terri Trespicio, a relationship expert who has appeared on the Today Show and Dr. Oz. “Cars don’t work that way. And neither do people. You want a car to keep running, you must refill the tank.” We need to refill those tanks. Bring the romance back in. Enjoy communication, fun, and the grow that relationship.

Scheduling

First things first, you need to schedule it in. Once you are married life starts to get super busy. Work, school, church, kids, in laws – they all can creep into our alone time. Put your date night on the calendar so that when something comes up you can say “I’m sorry, we already have another commitment that night” and the date actually happens!

You can both sit down at the start of each month and see what days you have open. My parents don’t have any little kids at home so they plan their date night for every Thursday night. Colin and I are WAY different. We have an 11 month old boy and Colin’s work requires him to travel a lot. So we commit to just once a month finding a night that works best with his schedule. We are flexible and committed, so it works for us. Get the babysitter. Make it happen. The difference a simple date night can make in a marriage is HUGE.

The Date Box

Kylee and Luke actually just signed up for this at the start of the year. It is dating made EASY. Each month the date box comes to your door with fun, interactive date packets all ready to go. Painting, sushi making, smores night, dancing – it is never the same twice. You get something new and exciting at your door each month ready to go! All supplies are included. Just read the directions and go.

Why has this been great for the Maughan’s? It is inexpensive. Doesn’t require extra time or energy deciding what to do and putting everything together. They get to explore their relationship and have fun together again at home, while their kids are asleep. And if you click hereyou can get $10 off your first month. It would be fun to at least test out!

The Date Jar

But what if you actually enjoy the planning part of your dates or you aren’t sure you want to pay each month?

Colin and I created a “date jar” on our 1st anniversary this past July. I took the time surf the internet for creative dates then took the list to Colin. He vetoed stargazing 😉 but other ones he was really excited about! After we had critiqued our list we cut the paper into strips, folded them, and put them in out cute little Date Jar. Some of our favorites so far have been:

  1. Visit our local museum
  2. Recreating our first date
  3. Rent Colin’s DREAM car for a day
  4. Ice Skating

It has been a really fun year, and we both look forward to pulling the next date out of our jar. Have a date night sometime this month where you make your jar together! Some of the best date pages I found for our jar were-

50 Creative Dates You’ve Never Thought Of

54 Date Ideas for Your Date Night

50 Date Ideas for Couples

There are a LOT more websites out there that will get those wheels in your head turning. Get creative and have fun!!! Colin and I LOVE our Date Jar!

There are so many Date Night Ideas out there. I hope you have found some inspiration and can strengthen your relationships with it! That is why we do what we do at KAP. It is all about the love and commitment. We love capturing those butterfly feelings so you can look back and remember. Marriage is the best!
