Extended family sessions are always meaningful, but this one with the Coopers was extra special. We met for their extended family photography in Layton Utah on a day that was brutally cold, with sharp wind that cut right through layers. And yet, this family showed up smiling, laughing, and ready to make the most of it. Absolute troopers.
I first met the Coopers when their daughter Alexis hired me to photograph her wedding earlier this year. From the very beginning, Lyle and Faith stood out to me. They are the kind of people who make you feel instantly welcome, the kind of warmth you can feel before a camera ever comes out. A fun full-circle moment too: Lyle and Faith sing with my parents in a local community choir. Proof that the world is smaller and sweeter than we think.

Showing Up for Each Other (Even in the Wind)
The conditions were not easy. Strong wind, freezing temperatures, and that kind of cold that makes your eyes water. But you would never know it from the photos. This family rallied together like pros.
Kids bundled up tight. Adults leaning into the moment. Everyone choosing connection over comfort.
That willingness to show up for each other, even when it’s inconvenient, says so much about the bond they share.
What We Captured During Their Session
One of the biggest benefits of extended family photography in Layton Utah is the variety it allows. During this session, we captured:
-
Full extended family portraits
-
Individual family groupings
-
Sweet, candid moments between grandchildren and grandparents
-
Cozy couple portraits for the grandparents
It was efficient, organized, and still left plenty of room for natural interaction. The result was a gallery that felt full of life and legacy.

Why Extended Family Photos Are Always Worth It
Extended family sessions aren’t just about one moment in time. They’re about preserving relationships as they exist right now. These photos become more meaningful with every passing year.
Extended family photography gives you:
-
Multiple generations together in one frame
-
Authentic moments between cousins, siblings, and grandparents
-
Legacy images that grow in value over time
-
Photos everyone can use for holiday cards and home prints
Cold fingers fade fast. These memories don’t.
