Everyone is in a different stage of life, schedules get busier, and it can become harder to get everyone together in one place. There’s a common idea that family photos are primarily for families with toddlers and young children.
I don’t think that’s true at all.
Your family changes throughout your entire life.
Adult children move out, start careers, get married, and build lives of their own. Parents enter new seasons, siblings grow closer or move farther apart, and eventually grandchildren may join the picture.
Every one of those chapters is worth documenting.
A family session with adult children can feel completely different from photographing a family with little kids, and that’s part of what makes it so special.
A More Relaxed Family Session
When everyone is older, we don’t have to spend the entire session chasing toddlers or negotiating with preschoolers.
Instead, we can focus on genuine interactions and the relationships that have developed over many years.
I love incorporating both classic portraits and more relaxed photographs where everyone is simply talking, laughing, or enjoying being together.
Those candid moments often end up telling the story of a family just as beautifully as the posed portraits.
Why Cache Valley Is Beautiful for Family Photos
Cache Valley offers so many options for outdoor family photography.
Whether we choose an open field, a mountain backdrop, a wooded trail, or a location closer to Logan and North Logan, the scenery gives us a beautiful setting without distracting from the people in the photographs.
I especially love the soft evening light throughout the valley. It gives family portraits that warm, timeless feeling that works beautifully on the walls of your home.
Don’t Wait Until Everyone Is Together Again
Getting adult children together can be difficult.
Everyone has different schedules, jobs, homes, and responsibilities. If you’ve managed to get everyone together, that’s the perfect reason to take advantage of it.
You don’t need a major milestone to justify family photos.
Sometimes “everyone happened to be here” is reason enough.
