Green Canyon Extended Family Pictures

In April, I took family pictures for the beautiful Peterson Family. They were all getting together for Easter, so it was the perfect time to update their family photos. We chose Green Canyon for the location because it is easily accessible for a big group of people. All of the cars can fit in the parking lot, there is a bathroom, and it isn’t a long drive. I highly recommend this gorgeous location for Green Canyon extended family pictures!

It was a cloudy, rainy day so we moved the session time up to 4:00 instead of 7:00 to avoid the rain! Thanks to the clouds, it worked out perfectly and we were able to have the canyon view in the evening with evenly lit images!

The Cache Valley hasn’t sprouted blossoms in early April this year. Luckily, Green Canyon has evergreen trees instead of dormant trees to make for a pretty background!

The Peterson family wore light pinks, blues, greens and whites. It was the perfect combination of pastels for Spring Family pictures. There were some cute patterns and textures mixed in. They also accessorized very well and they looked SO good! We couldn’t have asked for a better session.

At extended family photo sessions, I start with the big group image and get a variety of poses. Then I move on to the pictures of the grandparents with the grandchildren. I like to get this done first while all of the kids are still happy!

After that, I take pictures of each individual family or individual within the big family group! I don’t take pictures of the little kids by themselves just yet. I do that after all of the family pictures and have the kids line up like it is school picture day! This is flexible as I sometimes need to work with kids who are having a harder time.

After all the little kids are done being in the groupings, I like to get pictures of all of the adults together and pictures of the sibling group with the parents and the fun groupings like sisters and brothers together as well as each couple together. I LOVE getting fun pictures that will mean a lot to these families down the road.

I work very efficiently at extended family photography sessions and try to make it as fun as possible so that everyone has an enjoyable time and doesn’t have a bad taste in their mouth for the next group photo session!

The hardest part about extended family pictures is getting everyone’s schedules to line up for the photoshoot. I promise it is worth it!
