In my church, no one is paid. Every single church leader is a volunteer that is called to serve. I was called to serve as Relief Society Activities Committee Coordinator. So basically…PARTY PLANNING ;) Sorta.
We put on an activity every month for the ladies 18 and older — whether it be serving, emergency preparedness, socials, fitness, etc. I absolutely love my calling! Not only is it so fun to plan and carry out all these special activities, but it’s a great way to make friends and find my place in this ward. This is our fourth ward since we’ve been married and I finally feel like I fit in! It’s the perfect age demographics. It’s also easier to make friends when you have a child because you can find mommy friends and play groups!
In October, we did a big Fall Festival Dinner and Harvest Auction. Everyone brought and item or service to auction. Then, we filled out a long questionnaire to get our bidding points. For each question that applied to us, we got a certain amount of points. For example, for every child you have you got 5 points. If you were on time, you got 5 points. If you read your scriptures that morning, you got 10 points. Etc. We then used our points to bid on the things we wanted.
I donated a photography session and these guys were the highest bidders!! We set up a shoot at the railroad tracks, but it started snowing the morning of. I quickly re-arranged my front room and got out the studio lights.
Kylee started Kylee Ann Photography 9 years ago, and has since grown from a one woman amateur show to a full associate team. We shoot 50-75 weddings a year, and thrive on kindness and service.
