While I was in the middle of teaching on Thursday night, I got a few texts from Whitney. I didn’t check my phone until after the 4 hours of classes and started freaking out. I called with no answer and decided they probably had just gone back home and gone to sleep. I poured myself a big glass of ice water and sat on the couch. A few minutes later I got a text from Whitney. “Get here ASAP 7 cm”
I fllllew to the hospital (which is only 3 minutes away) and I’m glad I did because Whitney was going so fast! They checked in at the hospital at 8:45. I got there at 9:05. She went from a 3 to an 8 in those 20 minutes with no epidural yet. Finally, the epidural came and she returned to her calm, happy and mostly relieved self. A few minutes later she started to push…3 times to turn the baby (because she was head up) then 1 to push her out. Around 9:45 (1 hour after check-in) they were holding sweet Cecelia Rose in their arms.
Grandma and Grandpa walked in just minutes after Cecelia was born. Even though they missed the birth by a few minutes, they were there just in time to see her fresh, beautiful face. After I took pictures of everyone holding the baby (and I even got to hold her!!!) I drove home and found my water again. The ice hadn’t even melted. That is how it’s done. ;)
