“We met in Logan, UT back in October of 2018.  We were in the same singles ward, and he wanted to figure out a service project that we could do for the bishopric.  Even though his apartment is right in one of the closest buildings to mine, I had never met Ian, but the Relief Society President told him to reach out to me to plan the project.  I ended up doing most of it alone with my roommates- since I was too nervous to involve Ian in the process (keep in mind, he was the “cool” kid at church :).

To thank me though, he cooked up a fancy dinner (to which my roommates also tagged along).  Planning the service project was the first time we met, and for the next month or so my roommates kept trying to convince me that he was interested in me, and I always responded with, “nah- he thinks of me as a friend”.  :) ”

The Proposal Story

“Ian received the ring in the mail the day I left for India for spring break.  He kept taunting me and wanting to show it to me over Skype that whole week that I was gone (because he chose out the ring all on his own so I had no idea what it would look like).  Because he knew I knew he had the ring, he started asking me on a date almost every single night when I got home from my trip.  He figured if he asked me on frequent dates, I would keep wondering if the proposal would be that night!  The mind games definitely worked, and I was very confused by the end of the week when he actually did propose.

The Real Deal

He took me down to a nice dinner in Brigham City, and it was a fun time.  We have been going on walks every night, and so he asked if we could go on one after dinner- and even though it was raining, we both decided it would be fun.  He took me to a park in Logan and we walked around in the rain for a minute (I was jabbering on a million miles a minute and he was too nervous to say a word, though I didn’t realize that at the time).  There is a tunnel in the park that he took me to, and when we turned the corner to go in I saw that he had lined the tunnel with twinkly lights and candles.

Up front there was a big poster that said “Tean’s Adventure Continues” (Backstory, Tess+Ian=Tean, and then we’ve had an “adventure list” (basically a bucket list) since we’ve started dating) and a whole bunch of pictures of us clipped onto twinkly lights. He said he had a big speech planned, but he got too nervous and just got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.  Afterwards he had invited our siblings to all gather at my sister’s house so that we could celebrate with them.  It was a perfect evening, I was so happy with the ring he ended up choosing out for me, and we were giggling and head-over-heels for each other.”
