Elder Nelson was called to serve his mission in the Provo MTC where he met Katie as she was preparing to serve her mission in Texas. They continued their friendship through letters. When they got back, Ryan was in Utah and Katie was in Rexburg. They met at Temple Square for their unofficial first date. Their first date led to more dates until they were in a long distance relationship seeing each other every week. On Friday they met back at the Salt Lake Temple to be sealed together for Eternity. Their wedding day was incredibly joyful and filled with support from all over. Katie’s family (who I grew up with) flew in from Washington, and Ryan’s family and ward family…and possibly half the state of Utah filled up the entire reception hall. Everyone had permanent smiles plastered to their faces, and made me laugh all day long.
This Kylee Ann Bride doubles as a #kaHERO. I will never forget the life changing experiences I’ve had while watching her strength, determination, patience and kind heart in the toughest times. I’ve known Katie since she was a baby…through the 20+ surgeries, the times in wheelchairs and the times in hospital beds, but my most profound memories are on our pioneer trek across eastern Washington. Committed to anything she set her mind to, Katie signed up for a 4 day trek with her walkers. Bumpy roads, hills, extreme heat and really tough climbs for everyone. She trusted me as a skinny 18 year old girl to carry her on her back, and 4 of us to wheel her through these tough hills in a handcart. Never complaining, always smiling. I love this girl SO much and was teary all day watching her with the love of her life.
