Oquirrh Mountain Temple Baptism Photos | Callan’s Special Day

Some kids are a little unsure when they step in front of the camera. Callan was not one of them.

He was a total natural.

I loved getting to photograph Callan for his baptism photos at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. His whole family joined us for the session, which made the day feel even more special. And between his handsome blue suit, his big personality, and his younger siblings working hard to make him smile, there was plenty to photograph.

A Handsome Guy in a Blue Suit

Callan looked so grown up in his blue suit.

I kept thinking he looked like a mini man throughout the session. He carried himself with so much confidence, and he seemed completely comfortable in front of the camera.

That made it easy for me to move beyond the traditional baptism portraits and capture some images that felt a little more artistic and personal to him.

One of my favorites was photographing him sitting on the sign in front of the temple.

I love finding little opportunities like that during a session. You can get the classic portraits your family expects while also creating a few images that feel completely unique to your child.

Baptism Photos With the Whole Family

Natalie originally found me through Google, and I’m so glad she did.

For Callan’s session, the whole family came along to the temple. I always love when families choose to make baptism photos more than just a few pictures of the child in their baptism clothes.

This is a family milestone, too.

Having parents and siblings there gives us the opportunity to photograph the relationships surrounding the person being baptized.

And Callan’s younger siblings were especially cute.

They were clearly determined to make their big brother smile, and they seemed pretty excited about the idea of having their own baptism photo session someday.

Let the Siblings Be Part of It

I think sibling photos are especially fun during milestone sessions.

Kids don’t always need much direction when they’re together. Sometimes they naturally create the sweetest moments.

Callan’s siblings were trying to make him laugh, and those interactions gave us some of my favorite candid moments from the session.

Years from now, Callan may remember his baptism day, but his family will also get to remember what his younger siblings were like at that exact age.

That’s one of the reasons I love including the whole family whenever we can.

Finding the Artistic Moments

Traditional portraits are important for a baptism session, but I always like to look for something a little different, too.

Once we have the essential photos, I can start looking at the location differently.

How does the light fall?

Is there an interesting architectural detail?

Can we change the perspective?

Can we give the child something to do instead of simply asking them to stand and smile?

For Callan, sitting on the temple sign gave us a completely different kind of portrait.

It still clearly documents where his baptism photos were taken, but it has a little more personality and artistic direction.

Oquirrh Mountain Temple Baptism Photography

Baptism is such a meaningful milestone, and I love creating photos that capture both the importance of the day and the personality of the child you’re celebrating.

Callan’s session had everything I love about these milestone sessions: a handsome kid who was completely comfortable in front of the camera, a family excited to celebrate him, sweet sibling interactions, and plenty of opportunities to create something beautiful.

If your child is preparing for their baptism and you’re looking for an Oquirrh Mountain Temple baptism photographer, reach out to book their session. I’ll help you create a gallery with the classic portraits you’ll want to save alongside the candid, artistic, and family photos that make the memories feel real.
