Sweet three-year-old Olivia knows more about hospitals, medicine, pace makers and oxygen than most adults. She just completed her third open heart surgery.
“Andrew and Sarah were anxiously awaiting the birth of their second child, and went in for the ultrasound to find out the gender. They found out they were having another girl and we’re excited but they also left the ultrasound with trepidation. Something was possibly wrong with their baby and they had to schedule an ultrasound at primary children’s. Well, it turned out that the babe, Olivia, was diagnosed with HLHS (Hyposplastic left heart syndrome) so basically half of her heart wasn’t developing.”
“For HLHS there are three main open heart surgeries that the babies/kids have to go through. One when they are about a week old, one when they are about a year, and an other when they are about three. Livie is a stubborn one and has done well with her two surgeries with some setbacks a long they way. She is “broken” and yet she is beautiful and has so much strength.
