There are lists and lists of rules in photography including everything from appropriate lens choice, proper settings, correct angling and even composition.

1. Framing
My favorite way to lead eyes straight to my beautiful bride or couple is framing. Framing can be achieved in many ways. In the picture on the left, the leaves and branches are perfectly surrounding the bride’s face to lead the eyes straight to her face. In the picture on the left, the canoe is the frame where the couple is perfectly aligned in the middle. This is often done with structures, mountains, tunnels, trees, etc. Learn more about framing here. More framing examples here.
2. Rule of Thirds
Digital Photography School explains it best, but basically by off-centering your subject, the picture becomes more interesting to the viewer. People’s eyes naturally go to the sides of a photo rather than the center of the shot. More rule of third examples here.
3. Negative Space
Negative space is all that space above or around the subject. Sometimes leaving negative space is way more interesting than filling the entire frame. I use negative space A LOT and sometimes I take flack for it from other photographers. But I love it. More examples here.
4. Leading Lines
Leading lines are lines that lead the eyes straight through the photo to the subject. Check out some really amazing landscape examples here. And learn more here.
5. Get Closer
When you think you’re close enough, get closer. I know this rule goes against negative space, but it’s important too.
