San Diego Family Pictures on the Beach | Scripps Pier, La Jolla
Capen and Heather Brinkley were referred to me after they saw the San Diego Family Pictures we did together at Scripps Pier in La Jolla down in San Diego. The Brinkley’s have three boys. All of the boys really active in sports. I knew it wouldn’t be hard to pull their personalities out of them.
When I connected with Capen for session details he mentioned that it had been quite a few years since they last took family pictures in the same exact place under the Pier. At that moment I asked him to send me a couple of images of his last session when his boys were so very little.
I was so excited to re-create these!
I knew immediately that we needed to recreate a lot of the poses now that the boys were so big! He sent over a few images of Cole and Dawson tossing a beach ball to each other. There was another with baby Beckett playing with his dump truck in the sand.
I HAD to encourage them to bring those same beach toys to get a couple of cute reenactments. I didn’t know Heather yet, but when Capen said he would run it by her. I didn’t even question that this cute boy mamma would not be able to resist. Boy, did she deliver!! They showed up with a basket full of toys, including the same yellow bucket used in their previous session.
Scripps pier is an iconic monument
It extends from the University of California San Diego campus. You can always count on a line waiting next to newly engaged couples, expecting mothers, college seniors, and more to get that classic shot under the Pier as the sun hits in just the right spot under the grand, metal infrastructure.
It was the perfect backdrop for this classic California family filled with love for baseball and surfing. The best part of the day was definitely the dolphin spotting between paddleboarders and sunset surfers.
I am ALWAYS a fan of reenactments and encourage everyone to incorporate a few every time you have family pictures to show how much your family has grown. I LOVED working with the Brinkley family. I hope that we can re-do these same images in 10 or even 20 years from now!
