The Best Ages to Update Your Child’s Portraits | Davis County Studio Photographer
As parents, we’re constantly amazed by how quickly our children grow and change. From the tiny newborn days to the energetic toddler years and beyond, every stage brings new milestones and memories to cherish. One of the best ways to capture these precious moments is through updated portraits of your child! I offer Milestone Micro Sessions as a Davis County Studio Photographer to do just that! But, when is the best time to schedule these photo sessions? Every age is so important, and should be documented, but here are the ages that I suggest you capture:
Newborn to 6 Months: The Sweet Beginnings
Newborn portraits are often the first milestone captured in a child’s life. During this stage, babies are tiny bundles of joy, with delicate features and sleepy expressions. Many parents choose to schedule newborn photo sessions within the first two weeks of birth when babies are still curled up and sleepy, making for adorable, heartwarming portraits. As babies grow and develop, capturing their milestones every few months, up to six months, allows you to document their rapid changes during this precious time.
One Year: Celebrating the First Birthday
The first birthday is a significant milestone in a child’s life, marking one full year of growth, development, and love. Around this age, children begin to develop their unique personalities, and their curiosity and sense of wonder are in full bloom. First birthday portraits often include fun themes, playful props, and, of course, a cake smash session to capture those adorable messy moments. Sometimes, parents opt for a simpler, timeless look. Either way, it’s important to celebrate and document your child’s first year and the beginning of many more milestones to come!
Two to Three Years: The Toddler Years
The toddler years are a whirlwind of energy, exploration, and discovery. Between the ages of two and three, children’s personalities blossom, and their expressions become more animated and expressive. Toddler portraits are full of laughter, spontaneity, and genuine moments that perfectly capture the essence of this playful stage. From chubby cheeks and mischievous smiles to curious eyes and tiny hands, these portraits freeze fleeting moments that parents will treasure for a lifetime. As a parent, I truthfully love every stage, but 2 and 3 may be some of my favorite ages!
Five to Seven Years: School-Age Adventures
As children reach school age, they become more independent, confident, and curious about the world around them. Portraits taken between the ages of five and seven capture the transition from preschooler to school-age child, showcasing their growing maturity and interests.
Ten to Twelve Years: Tween Transitions
The tween years mark a period of transition between childhood and adolescence. Children between the ages of ten and twelve are on the cusp of significant changes, both physically and emotionally. Tween portraits capture the unique blend of innocence and maturity characteristic of this age group. It’s a time to celebrate their individuality, interests, and budding personalities before they embark on the journey into the teenage years!
Every age and stage of childhood holds its own beauty, charm, and significance. Whether you’re capturing the sleepy sweetness of a newborn, the playful antics of a toddler, or the growing independence of a tween, updating your child’s portraits allows you to freeze these fleeting moments in time and create cherished memories.
