Viewmont High School Dance Company Photos | Team & Individual Portraits in Centerville

There is something so fun about photographing a group of dancers. You get the energy of the whole team, but you also get to see each dancer’s individual personality come through.

This year, I had the chance to photograph the Viewmont High School Dance Company for their team and individual photos in Centerville, Utah. And this one was extra special because their teacher and coach, Danielle, is one of my good friends.

I was so honored when she asked me to photograph their dance company this year!

Team Photos That Show Off the Whole Dance Company

Team photos are about more than getting everyone in the same frame.

A dance company has its own personality, energy, and style. I want the final images to feel like their team, not just a standard school group photo.

We photographed the Viewmont High School Dance Company at a gorgeous park near the school. The setting gave us a little more room to create something beautiful while still keeping the focus on the dancers.

Outdoor locations can be especially fun for dance team photos because they give us natural light, space to move, and a setting that feels less restrictive than a traditional studio portrait.

Individual Dance Portraits

Along with the full team photos, I also photographed individual portraits of the dancers.

I love this part of dance photography because every dancer brings something different to the session. Their expressions, movement, confidence, and personality all show up differently in front of the camera.

Individual portraits also give dancers images they can use beyond the team photo. They can be used for personal profiles, announcements, social media, senior-year memories, or simply as a way to remember this season of their life.

Why Location Matters for Dance Team Photography

You don’t necessarily need a studio to create beautiful dance portraits.

A great outdoor location can give you a completely different look. We can use trees, open space, paths, architecture, and natural light to create variety without having to move locations constantly.

For a school dance company, choosing a location close to the school can also make the session easier for everyone.

The key is finding somewhere that gives the team enough space while still providing interesting backgrounds and good light.

A Special Connection Made This Session Even Better

Getting to photograph Danielle’s team was such an honor.

As a photographer, I love getting to work with people I already know and care about. But there is also something really special about being trusted with a project that means so much to them.

Danielle works with these dancers every day, and she knows how much time, work, and dedication they put into their team. Getting to document that for her and for the dancers made this session one I was especially excited about.

I’m so grateful she trusted me to photograph the Viewmont High School Dance Company this year.
