Balboa Park | Family Session
Beautiful Park in San Diego!
Most of my shoots in San Diego happen on the beach, but there are so many places around the city that create beautiful backdrops for your family shoots! Jenn and Derric booked me while I was on an extended stay in San Diego last fall. When we talked about location, I was so excited when Jenn chose to meet in Balboa Park! This beautiful San Diego Balboa Park in the city is located in the downtown area of San Diego and spans over 1200 acres and contains not only large open grassy areas, but gardens, walking paths, theaters, museums, beautiful architecture, and even contains the San Diego Zoo!
Not only is it a great place to play, it also offers a variety of backdrops in such close proximity!
The first 5-10 minutes of a family session is when we get the posed smiles and get to capture the sweet moments.
We started the session in an ally-way between two buildings. The landscaping was beautifully manicured and lined with rose bushes. We grabbed a few straight-on shots of the Cordovas and then moved on to the movement portion of the session. This ally-way was a perfect space to capture full walking candids with the family without the risk of walking into other park go-ers or waiting for people walking behind and getting in the shot. Paige and Riley loved running up and down the corridor which made for some fun shots! It was a no brainer for Jenn and Derric to come to a location with free range for their 2 young girls.
We moved over to the botanical building to get some shots in front of the Lily Pond. At this point the girls were rightfully done with sitting still, enter the tickle fight. Tickles fights are the best way to natural, candid smiles from wiggly little ones.
Loads of Natural Vegetation set the scene!
There is never a bad angle!
As the session went on, the girls got sillier and sillier. As I chased them around I got the cutest shots of them together! Balboa is the perfect spot for the “chase” because no matter where they ran and turned, there was always a beautiful scene behind them or in front of them so we didn’t miss a single smile!
Final Destination at Casa del Prado Theatre!
As we walked back to our cars, we made one last stop!
Paige and Riley did so well during their session. We wanted to grab a few more spots in front of the theater to capture the architecture. So what do you do to contain 2 cutie, squirrely girls? The famous shoulder ride! We grabbed some shots in front of the beautiful baroque arches and ended our session there.
The Cordova family session at Balboa was a perfect example of my favorite type of session. This Balboa Park Family Session contained
ahooting at beautiful backdrops for your family shoots, beautiful place, with busy little babies, and the sweetest family!
