Clark Family | Box Elder Extended Family Photography

There’s something extra special about photographing a family you’ve watched grow over the years. This Box Elder extended family photography session with the Clark family was one of those full-circle moments for me. I’ve been photographing them since their kids were just tweens, and now—look at them! Grown-up families, grandbabies, and so much love between generations.

We had originally planned to meet for a fall mini session, but Utah had other ideas and gave us a downpour. Luckily, the Clarks were so accommodating, and we quickly pivoted to the next day. It ended up being perfect. We met at the beautiful Box Elder campground, where the fall colors were absolutely showing off.

One of the most touching moments of the session came from their sweet granddaughter, who has NHK. Her parents built a special stand just for this session so she could be in the photos standing up like a big girl. She looked so comfortable and her parents were beaming. It was such a beautiful reminder of what family sessions are really about: celebrating the now, exactly as it is.

Photographing extended families is always a joyful challenge. There’s a rhythm to it—finding the balance between posed group shots and spontaneous, unscripted interactions. I love watching cousins giggle, grandparents beam, and siblings reconnect. Everyone brought their best energy, and it absolutely shows in their gallery.

Why Extended Family Sessions Are Worth It

Extended family photos can feel overwhelming to plan—but they are so worth it. Not only do you get everyone in one place, but you also capture all the in-between moments: hugs with grandparents, inside jokes between siblings, and the proud look from parents watching their children raise families of their own.

And let’s be honest, when was the last time everyone got together just for photos? These sessions create lasting memories and heirlooms.
