Sometimes, the best sessions are the ones squeezed in between orthodontist appointments! The Claybrook family wanted to capture a few updated shots before their boys’ braces went on—and I was so excited to make it happen. We chose the Shoreline Nature Preserve for their photography in West Layton session, and it was the perfect neutral backdrop for their cozy fall color palette.
As we pulled up, the skies started to look a little questionable, and to top it off—it was homecoming night! There were teens in tuxes and gowns everywhere. But the Claybrooks were total champs. We embraced the chaos, dodged a few dance groups, and as if the universe was rewarding us, the clouds opened up and gifted us the most magical, glowy sunset.

The kids were amazing, and you could tell this family just gets each other. Their laughter was contagious and the love between them was easy to photograph. Even with the quick pace and last-minute shuffle, the session felt relaxed, genuine, and full of joy.
What I really loved about this session was how laid-back the whole vibe was. It wasn’t about overthinking outfits or stressing about matching perfectly—it was about capturing them as they are right now. It was full of connection, giggles, and that post-braces glow up. These are the kinds of sessions that show how family photos don’t need to be complicated—they just need to be real.
