Clifton Idaho Extended Family Photos | Celebrating 40 Years of Marriage

Forty years of marriage is a pretty incredible milestone—and getting the whole family together to celebrate it made the Povey family’s photo session even more special.

Grandma and Grandpa were celebrating 40 years of marriage, and their family was all together at their home in Clifton, Idaho, for the Fourth of July weekend. Instead of traveling somewhere elaborate for photographs, we stayed right at Grandma and Grandpa’s property and used their backyard and farm field as the backdrop.

I loved that choice because these photographs aren’t just of a beautiful family. They’re tied to a place that means something to them.

As a Clifton Idaho extended family photographer, I love when a family’s own home, land, or favorite place can become part of the story.

Celebrating 40 Years Together

Forty years of marriage means decades of memories.

Kids have grown up.

Grandkids have come along.

Family traditions have been created.

And through all of it, Grandma and Grandpa have built a family that now gets to gather around them.

Having everyone together for their anniversary gave us the perfect opportunity to photograph not only the couple who started it all, but the family they’ve built over the last 40 years.

Why Photograph Your Extended Family at Home?

There is something incredibly meaningful about photographing a family where they actually spend time together.

For the Poveys, that meant Grandma and Grandpa’s backyard and the surrounding farm field.

It wasn’t just a pretty location.

It was their location.

The place where everyone gathered for the Fourth of July weekend. The place their family has memories together. The place connected to Grandma and Grandpa’s life and their family history.

Those details make photographs feel more personal.

Fourth of July Family Weekend

I love that this session happened over the Fourth of July weekend.

Holidays have a way of bringing families together, especially when everyone lives in different places or doesn’t get to see each other as often as they’d like.

When everyone is already gathered, it’s the perfect opportunity to make time for family photographs.

You don’t need to plan an entire reunion around a photo session.

Sometimes the reunion is already happening.

You just need to take a little time to preserve it.

Extended Family Photos That Tell the Whole Story

With a large family, I always want to create more than one giant group photograph.

We’ll get the classic photograph of everyone together, but we’ll also photograph the relationships within the family.

Grandma and Grandpa together.

Grandparents with their grandchildren.

Parents with their children.

Siblings.

Cousins.

Smaller family groupings.

Those photographs become especially meaningful over time because they show the individual relationships that make up the larger family.

A 40th Anniversary Is Worth Documenting

Anniversaries are a beautiful reason to schedule family photographs.

And 40 years deserves more than a dinner and a cake.

It’s an opportunity to pause and recognize everything that has happened since two people decided to build a life together.

The Poveys were able to celebrate that milestone surrounded by the people who are part of that story.

I’m so glad they took the time to document it.

Your Clifton Idaho Extended Family Photographer

If your family is gathering in Clifton, Preston, Cache Valley, Bear Lake, or throughout southeastern Idaho, you don’t need a fancy venue to create beautiful extended family photographs.

Your backyard might be the perfect place.

Your farm might be the perfect place.

Your grandparents’ home might be the place that tells your story best.

As a Clifton Idaho extended family photographer, I love photographing families in meaningful locations and creating images that preserve both the people and the season of life you’re celebrating.

If your family is getting together for an anniversary, holiday, reunion, or simply because everyone is finally home, I’d love to help you document it.
