I met the Merill family at their extended family pictures in 2020! They are the cutest, funnest family and I love taking pictures for them!
We were wanting some really pretty fall trees for their family photos! I went location scouting for a few hours the week of their cache valley photo session trying to find the perfect spot. The Merill’s actually had their engagement photos taken in Hyrum with the pretty fall colors, but didn’t remember the location. It turns out I was able to find it! We took their family photos at the same location they had their engagement photos ten years ago! We even took their family pictures on their 10 year wedding anniversary. How fun is that?
Sometimes, it feels like the stars need to align for family pictures to work out perfectly. I have some fall family photos advice so that you get beautiful results!
-
Schedule early!! Contact your photographer in the summer to schedule your fall family photos. Fall sessions book up very, very fast. There is just a few weeks of time in October when the trees look their best and the weather is nice. Get on the schedule at the ideal time for the best outcome for fall colors!
-
Dress for the weather. Towards the beginning of fall, you are used to dressing in your summer attire. For your fall family photos, it is time to add layers! Put warm tights on your little girls and dress your kids in layers! If there are cold sad kids, that is no fun at your fall family pictures.
-
Communicate with your photographer about the look you are going for so they can find the perfect spot. There are so many different looks for locations in the fall. Trust your photographer to find a great spot with great scenery and lighting.
-
Hype your kids up for family pictures, and plan a fun fall activity for after your photo session! Plan to carve pumpkins after or go to a corn maze. It’s always nice to have a fun activity to look forward to!
Can’t wait for next year’s fall family sessions! It is so fun to get to see our clients year after year and watch their families grow!
