Some weddings are especially meaningful to photograph because of the people standing in front of my camera. Garrett and Ash’s wedding was one of those days for me because Garrett is my nephew.
They wanted to celebrate their marriage surrounded by the people who matter most to them, so they invited close friends and family to join them for a beautiful outdoor celebration. I loved getting to be there not only as their photographer, but as family.

A Wedding Surrounded by the People You Love
Garrett and Ash wanted their wedding to feel personal and intimate. They weren’t looking for a huge production. They wanted to bring their closest people together, celebrate, and enjoy the day.
Finding a location that worked well for both of their families was important, too. They wanted somewhere beautiful and outdoors that was reasonably central for everyone.
Cold Spring Trout Farm in Ogden ended up being such a fun fit.
The outdoor setting gave them the natural backdrop they wanted while creating a relaxed environment for their friends and family to celebrate together.
Teal, Yellow & Sunflowers
Their wedding colors were teal and yellow, with sunflowers bringing everything together.
I loved how cheerful the color palette felt against the outdoor setting. Sunflowers are such a fun choice for an outdoor wedding because they bring so much personality without needing an elaborate floral design.
The little details of a wedding day don’t have to be complicated to make it feel completely yours.
Sometimes it’s as simple as choosing colors you love, flowers that feel like you, and a location where you actually want to spend your day.
Why I Love Outdoor Weddings
There is something about an outdoor wedding that naturally encourages people to slow down and enjoy themselves.
Guests can visit with each other. Kids can move around. Couples have beautiful natural scenery for portraits. And the whole day can feel a little less formal while still being incredibly meaningful.
Cold Spring Trout Farm gave Garrett and Ash that kind of setting.
It was beautiful without taking attention away from the reason everyone was there in the first place: celebrating the two of them.
When Your Photographer Is Family
Photographing my nephew’s wedding was a pretty special experience.
As a photographer, I’m used to stepping into someone’s wedding day and documenting all the little pieces that make it theirs. But when the couple is part of my own family, I get to experience those moments from both sides.
I already knew Garrett, and getting to watch him marry Ash surrounded by their favorite people was something I won’t forget.
I’m always grateful when a couple trusts me with their wedding memories. Getting that opportunity from someone in my own family made this one particularly meaningful.
