How to Keep Things Running Amidst Total Chaos

Well its been quite the summer. Chaos, changed plans, loss, exhaustion.

The month of May was scheduled chaos.

I felt strongly about taking most of summer off so I planned accordingly. I knew if I could work hard for 4 weeks I could take June and July slow. I traveled to four different states for weddings, and our studio shot 15 weddings in 20 day. It was a bit crazy with three kids, but I loved it.

How to Keep Things Running Amidst Total Chaos

The day after I got back from California (my last destination) my grandfather fell and broke his neck on the way to Utah. They were planning on staying at my house in Logan…but didn’t quite make it. Instead we spent the month of June bouncing from hospital to hospital.

Our family stayed by his side 24/7 for the first three weeks and continued through the days until the end. We held his furry hands while he slowly slipped away often not even waking up while we were there. Lots of ups, lots of downs,  lots of changed plans. Our family really came together, and we saw so many miracles. It was an honor to be by his side and serve him in his final days. God’s hand was in every detail, but it still wasn’t easy.

In the midst of that my sister had her baby (YAY!). Within 48 hours of coming home, she rushed back to the ER and stayed in the NICU for a few days. More chaos. (P.S. She’s 100% and the cutest)

At the beginning of July, my grandpa passed away. Most of our family had a chance to say goodbye (another miracle) and it was a blessing to see him lifted from the pain and discomfort he endured. Family came from all over for his memorial service. More chaos.

Losing someone you love is hard. Watching people you love hurting is hard. Grief is hard to experience, and hard to watch.

What I’m getting at is….this summer has been UTTER CHAOS.

In addition to living in chaos and constant survival mode, I have three young children and a full-time business….and a lot of side hustles. I have a church calling, friends, neighbors, responsibilities.

Everyone keeps asking: How do you stay motivated through the lows? HOW is your business still running?

And here are my best answers:

  1. I DIDN’T ALWAYS STAY MOTIVATED! BUT MY BUSINESS WORKS WITHOUT ME.

Yes, I still posted on Instagram every day with fresh captions. My blogs went live 3 times a week with new content. The Facebook group I run for entrepreneurs still had links and prompts and engagement. Etc etc. My business was running, but my motivation was NOT. I pre-plan and pre-schedule ALL my content. I do NOT work everyday. And this is why. I HAVE to allow myself space. Space for my children, space for emergencies and space for myself. When I can’t work for a week…or a month, my business still functions without me.

If you are struggling finding balance in your everyday life, do not wait until you’re in a state of chaos to build systems for your business. You can LIVE your life everyday without worrying about whats going on to sustain or grow your business. I have built a backend thats as pretty as the frontend. Using systems and simple techniques I can create, sustain and grow my dream business. I have an ENTIRE course that literally shares ALL the systems and tools I use.

If you need balance in your life and business, don’t wait to take this course. You don’t have to be motivated 24/7 to have an amazing business.

2. I HAD MY BREAKDOWNS & MY BAD DAYS.

You should know that I did have breakdowns and bad days. There were some nights that I cried and cried. Not necessarily because I was overly sad, but because of all the emotions and weight and responsibility and sadness I was carrying for weeks and weeks. It wasn’t easy. And its okay to feel depleted, sad or unmotivated. You don’t have to be happy 100% of the time. You don’t have to be strong 100% of the time. We can’t know joy without the sadness.

3. THERE IS STRENGTH IN SERVICE

It wasn’t always easy to be by grandpa’s side. Especially in the first few weeks. He was in a lot of pain and he wasn’t himself most of the time. He yelled, and swatted. It wasn’t him. Also, it was not easy leaving my kids so often. I felt like I wasn’t fulfilling my role as a wife or mother life I wanted to. BUT the more I served, the more strength I felt.

When hard things happen, there are so many blessings too. There are angels lifting us up. Some days we cry and cry. But if we get back up we’ll be blessed to keep going.

That service to which all of us have been called is the service of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As He enlists us to His cause, He invites us to draw close to Him. He speaks to you and to me:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”14

If we truly listen, we may hear that voice from far away say to us, as it spoke to another, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”15 That each may qualify for this blessing from our Lord is my prayer, and I offer it in His name, even Jesus Christ, our Savior, amen.

4. My husband is a rockstar.

Truly. Couldn’t have survived summer without his support… emotionally and in person. (I was going to say physically but it seemed weird.) He dropped everything (including work) more than once to be by my side, my grandpas side or my kid’s side.

If you’re going through something and feel like you can’t keep up with all your responsibilities, here’s a quick recap on How to Keep Things Running Amidst Total Chaos:

  1. Set up systems in your business and life NOW so it can weather all storms that surely lie ahead.
  2. Its okay to have bad days and breakdowns
  3. Keep moving forward and keep serving. You will be blessed.
  4. Find support in your friends, family, spouse and neighbors. You need it.
