Logan Utah Lilac Family Portraits | Annual Session with the Gifford Family

This Logan Utah lilac family portraits session with the Gifford family was such a fun continuation of their annual family tradition. I’ve photographed them in so many different locations over the years, so it was extra special to finally bring them to the lilac spot in Logan for something a little different this time.

And honestly, it fit them perfectly.

With a family full of girls, the soft purple blooms and romantic spring light felt like the most natural backdrop for their session. Everything came together in a way that felt feminine, joyful, and really connected to their family dynamic.

The lilac location in Logan is one of those seasonal gems that only looks this good for a short window each spring. When it hits peak bloom, the entire space transforms into soft color, texture, and the most flattering natural light for family photography.

For the Gifford family, it created the perfect setting for both posed portraits and more relaxed candid moments.

We focused on a mix of full family groupings, mom-and-daughter combinations, and individual portraits that highlighted each girl’s personality. That variety is one of the biggest benefits of doing annual family sessions—you get to tell a different chapter of your story each year while still keeping consistency in style and connection.

Why annual family portraits matter more than people think

One thing I’ve noticed with families who commit to annual photos is how much their comfort level changes over time. At the beginning, sessions can feel a little stiff or unsure. But after a few years, everything becomes more natural and relaxed.

That’s exactly what I’ve seen with the Gifford family.

They show up already knowing how things flow, which lets us spend more time focusing on interaction instead of instruction. The result is always a more authentic gallery that reflects who they actually are together in this season.

Annual sessions also create a visual timeline that becomes more valuable with each passing year. Kids grow quickly, dynamics shift, and those changes are so meaningful to document intentionally.

Logan Utah lilac family portraits as a seasonal favorite

Cache Valley in spring is full of beautiful locations, but lilacs are always one of the most requested for good reason. The color palette is soft, timeless, and flattering for nearly every family wardrobe.

For this session, the lilacs paired especially well with the Gifford family’s style and energy. The softness of the location enhanced their connection without overpowering the images.

We kept posing simple, encouraged natural interaction, and allowed space for movement so the girls could just enjoy being together. That always leads to the most genuine expressions and emotional moments.

I photograph Logan Utah lilac family portraits, along with annual and seasonal family sessions throughout Cache Valley and Northern Utah, and sessions like this continue to be some of my favorites because of how meaningful they become over time.

This Gifford family session was such a beautiful reminder of how powerful consistency in family photography can be. Each year adds another layer to their story.

If you’re thinking about starting annual family photos or want to plan a spring session at the Logan lilacs, I’d love to help you create something timeless and meaningful. Reach out through my contact page and let’s plan it together.
