North Logan Extended Family Photos | Making Large Family Sessions Feel Easy and Natural

Extended family sessions are some of my favorite opportunities to photograph the people who make up a family’s bigger story. Grandparents, siblings, cousins, parents, and grandchildren don’t always live close enough to see each other regularly, so when everyone is together, it’s worth documenting.

As a North Logan extended family photographer, I love creating portraits that capture both the entire family and the individual relationships within it. A large family gallery should feel complete without making the session itself feel complicated or overwhelming.

Why North Logan Is a Great Location for Extended Family Photos

North Logan offers beautiful outdoor settings for families who want classic Cache Valley portraits. With mountain views, open spaces, greenery, and beautiful natural light, the area gives us plenty of options for creating variety throughout a large family gallery.

I especially love locations where we can move around a little and create different groupings without making everyone feel like they’re constantly posing.

The scenery provides a beautiful backdrop, but the people are always the focus.

What Happens During an Extended Family Session?

One of the biggest questions I hear is how we possibly get every combination of people when there are so many family members.

That’s where having a plan makes all the difference.

I typically begin with the entire extended family together. From there, we’ll work through different combinations—grandparents with grandchildren, adult siblings, individual family units, cousins, and smaller groups.

This gives you the big family portrait you’ve been hoping for while also creating photographs that document the individual relationships within your family.

Keeping Kids Happy During Large Family Photos

Extended family sessions often include children of all different ages, and I don’t expect them to sit perfectly still for an entire session.

Instead, I build movement and interaction into the experience.

Kids can talk, laugh, play, and interact with the people they love. Those moments often create the most genuine photographs in the gallery.

My goal is for everyone to feel comfortable rather than spending the entire session worrying about whether every child is smiling at exactly the right moment.

Why Extended Family Photos Become Family Heirlooms

There’s something different about a photograph of your entire family together.

It’s a snapshot of a particular moment in your family’s history—who was there, how everyone had changed, and the relationships that connected you all.

Years from now, those details become even more meaningful.

As a North Logan extended family photographer, I love creating portraits that families can display in their homes and pass down to the next generation.

If your family is planning a reunion, gathering in Cache Valley, or simply wants to document everyone together, I’d love to help create a gallery that preserves this season of your family’s story.
