This session with Alexis and Juan was such a sweet reminder that every love story looks a little different, and honestly, that’s what makes engagement sessions so meaningful. I photographed these two in Preston, Idaho, before their summer celebration with family and friends, and the entire evening felt relaxed, happy, and full of excitement for this season of life.
They actually met on Tinder, which I love because modern love stories deserve to be celebrated too. Alexis and Juan already got married this past winter, but they’re gathering with loved ones this summer to continue celebrating, and these portraits felt like the perfect way to document that chapter together.
As a Preston Idaho engagement photographer, I always love sessions that feel more focused on connection than perfection, and these two made that incredibly easy.

Preston Idaho Engagement Photographer for Natural Outdoor Portraits
Preston has such a calm, open feel that works perfectly for engagement sessions. The mountain views, open fields, and soft evening light throughout Southern Idaho create the prettiest backdrop for couples who want photos that feel natural and timeless.
For Alexis and Juan’s session, we focused on movement, laughter, and candid interaction instead of overly posed images. Some of my favorite moments happened while they were simply walking together, talking, and joking around between shots.
That’s usually where the best engagement photos happen anyway.
One thing I loved about this session was how relaxed they were together. You could instantly tell they’re genuinely best friends, which always creates the most natural chemistry in photos. Sessions feel so much easier when couples stop worrying about “posing correctly” and simply focus on each other.
I photograph couples throughout Preston, Logan, Richmond, and surrounding Northern Utah and Southern Idaho areas. I genuinely think this region is underrated for engagement photos. The scenery feels peaceful and romantic without the crowds you often find in larger cities.

Why engagement sessions still matter after the wedding
I actually love when couples choose to do portraits after they’re already married. There’s usually less stress, less pressure, and more ability to simply enjoy the experience together.
For Alexis and Juan, this session felt less about formal wedding planning and more about celebrating the life they’re building together. Their summer gathering with loved ones made this season feel especially meaningful. I loved getting to document that excitement before the celebration.
Sessions like this also remind me that engagement photos do not need to fit one exact timeline or tradition. Every couple’s story unfolds differently, and your photos should reflect your actual relationship and season of life.
The soft summer light in Preston ended up being the perfect match for the relaxed, joyful energy they brought into the session. Everything felt simple in the best way.
I absolutely loved photographing these two and documenting this season for them as their Preston Idaho engagement photographer.
