As a Salt Lake City family photographer, I feel there’s something so magical about golden hour in the woods—especially when you’re photographing a beautiful, blended family celebrating their very first family photos together. This Salt Lake City family session was full of light, love, and so much playful energy!

We met up in a quiet wooded area just outside the city that had everything we could’ve asked for: tall trees, warm sunset light streaming through the leaves, and an easy walk-in spot that was perfect for a toddler (and two adorable pups!).

A Blended Family with All the Heart

One of the sweetest parts of this session? Their two sweet dogs—an older cutie who was calm and wise, and a brand-new puppy full of wiggly excitement. Combined with their joyful toddler, there was never a dull moment! These three little personalities made for so many genuine, candid moments. We captured everything from giggles and snuggles to puppy kisses and stick collecting—pure joy.

It was clear from the start how much love this family shares. Watching them interact—laughing, playing, and simply being together—made for some incredibly touching images. I especially loved the little in-between moments: helping their toddler climb onto a log, everyone huddled together for a hug, and the way the dogs happily trotted after their favorite people.
