One of my favorite parts of being a family photographer is getting to photograph the same families through different seasons of life. I’ve been photographing the Romney family for many years, so it was especially sweet to have them in front of my camera again for their Saltaire family session.
They’re such a kind, wonderful family, and I loved the simple, timeless feel of their session.
As a Saltaire family photographer, I especially loved the neutral color palette they chose. It complemented the soft, natural landscape beautifully and kept the focus exactly where it belongs: on the people.

Why I Love Photographing Families Again and Again
There’s something special about watching a family grow through photographs.
The kids get taller.
Personalities change.
Families enter new seasons.
And every time they come back, we get to document another little piece of their story.
I’ve photographed the Romneys for many years, which means I don’t just see them as clients. I’ve gotten to watch their family change over time.
That’s one of the biggest privileges of this job.
Saltaire Is a Beautiful Family Photo Location
Saltaire offers a completely different look from a traditional Utah family photography location.
The open landscape around the Great Salt Lake creates a simple, expansive backdrop that allows the family to stand out.
There’s something about the neutral landscape that makes these photographs feel timeless.
And because the setting is so open, we can create a mix of close-up portraits, full-family images, and photographs with more of the landscape surrounding the family.
Why Neutral Outfits Photograph So Beautifully
I loved the neutral palette the Romney family chose for their session.
Neutral outfits are especially beautiful in a location like Saltaire because they work with the natural landscape instead of competing with it.
Creams, tans, whites, soft browns, and other muted tones create a cohesive look while still allowing everyone to have their own individual style.
If you’re planning family photos, you don’t have to put everyone in matching outfits.
Instead, choose a few colors and textures that complement each other.
The result feels coordinated without looking overly styled.
Family Photos That Feel Timeless
My goal with family photography isn’t to create images that feel trendy for six months.
I want you to be able to look at your photographs years from now and still love them.
That means focusing on connection, genuine expressions, beautiful light, and a setting that doesn’t overwhelm the people in the photograph.
The Romney family’s Saltaire session had all of those things.
Simple, beautiful, and completely focused on their family.
