Some photography sessions are just especially good from the moment you arrive. The light is perfect, the location is showing off, and your couple looks completely at home in front of the camera.
Cassidy and Connor’s formal session at Tony Grove was one of those sessions.
The lighting was gorgeous, the wildflowers were popping, and Cassidy had her very own hype team along for the evening. Her mom, dad, and sisters all came along to cheer them on, making the session feel like a fun family outing as much as a photography session.

Perfect Mountain Light at Tony Grove
Tony Grove is one of my favorite places for mountain formals because there is so much variety packed into one location.
For Cassidy and Connor’s session, we had beautiful mountain scenery, wildflowers, and the kind of soft evening light that makes everything feel a little more magical.
The flowers were especially beautiful during this session. When the wildflowers are in full bloom, they add so much color and texture to mountain portraits without taking attention away from the couple.
And when the light cooperates, I’m always going to take advantage of it.
A Hype Team in the Background
Cassidy and Connor weren’t the only ones having fun.
Mom, Dad, and Cassidy’s sisters were all there to be the hype team, which I loved. There’s something special about having the people who know you best nearby while you’re taking such important photographs.
They brought plenty of support and encouragement, and I’m sure there were a few laughs happening behind the camera, too.
Having family along can make a formal session feel much less intimidating. Instead of feeling like you’re showing up to have your picture taken, it becomes another part of celebrating the couple.

Three Sisters, Three Photography Stories
This session was also extra special for me because Cassidy is the second of three sisters I’ve had the chance to photograph this summer.
I photographed her older sister Alyssa and Ethan earlier this summer for their engagements, formals, and wedding. Now it’s Cassidy and Connor’s turn, and I’ll be photographing their wedding later this month.
And I’m not done with the family yet.
Their younger sister Ava’s senior session is also coming up later this month.
Getting to photograph three sisters through such different seasons of life is something I don’t take for granted. I get to see the family dynamic, watch these milestones unfold, and document each sister in a way that feels unique to her.
It’s one of my favorite parts of being a photographer.
Photographing More Than the Perfect Pose
Formal sessions are a chance to create beautiful, polished portraits, but I never want them to feel like a series of stiff poses.
I want couples to have room to interact, laugh, walk together, and enjoy being with each other.
The best images often happen in between the poses—when you’re laughing at something your partner said, fixing each other’s outfits, or simply taking in the scenery together.
Those little moments give formal portraits personality.
Tony Grove Wedding Formals
If you’re planning wedding formals in the mountains, Tony Grove offers a beautiful combination of wildflowers, trees, mountain views, and natural light.
Cassidy and Connor’s session was such a good reminder of why I love photographing couples here. The setting gave us plenty of variety, while the evening light made everything feel warm and natural.
And having their family there to cheer them on made the whole night even more memorable.
