There are some moments you just know you’ll never forget—and being present for Baby Kai’s Fresh 48 session was one of them. As a Utah birth photographer, I don’t take on many births these days. But when my best friend Brikelle went into labor, there was no way I was missing it.
She called me at 1:55 a.m. and by 2:10, I was walking into the hospital. Just 30 minutes later, Kai was born. The room was full of emotion—pain, strength, anticipation, and finally, relief and joy. Kai had a tough start and needed a bit of NICU care, but we were still able to document his early moments gently and meaningfully.

Fresh 48 sessions capture something no other type of session can—the raw, real, beautiful beginning of a brand new life. We focused on tiny toes, mama’s soft kisses, and quiet moments that speak volumes. These aren’t posed photos. They’re memories, frozen in time.
Even with the hospital setting and Kai’s NICU needs, we were able to photograph him swaddled, snuggled, and safe. We kept things calm and intimate, making sure Brikelle felt supported and seen. The result was a gallery that reflects not just what happened—but how it felt.
What makes Fresh 48 sessions so meaningful is that they capture the little things that fade so quickly—newborn wrinkles, hospital bracelets, sleepy expressions. Even a short window of time can become a treasured memory when it’s photographed with intention.
