Most of the work I do as a brand photographer starts before the product even arrives. Choosing a Style for your Brand Shoot is the first step.
It’s so important to plan and prepare my studio, models and mind for each brand shoot. The first thing I do is send a questionnaire to all of the brands I work with. The questionnaire is filled with questions to help me get the vision and style on paper. Because most of my brands live out of state, I become the stylist and photographer all at once. If I have the vision figured out before the models and product arrive, the shoot always fits the vision.
One of the most important questions I ask my brands is the style they are looking for.
Fortunately there is not a wrong answer. I shoot home style, studio style and outdoor equally. It depends on your brand, vision and product. Pictures on your website might need to be shot in studio, but the home look is best for your instagram. Think, what am I using these pictures for?
There’s a time and a place for every style, brand and season. I don’t have one “look” and that’s why I can shoot 10+ baby brands in one week and they all look different.⠀
STUDIO vs HOME
The studio look is clean and product focused. Examples of a few times when Studio Look is best:
- Shop Images
- Announcing a new product
- Mixed into social media
- Stories
The home look is cozy and usually shows the product in use in a natural way. These images are great for:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Social Media
- Email campaigns
- Ads⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
