Momma Packer has her hands full with five boys (one of them being her husband). All of them very close in age, it was so much fun. The thing about family photography is that you never know what you’re gonna get. Boys and girls are so different.
Families with six kids under age 7 are different from families with one teenager. There’s a few tricks you just pick up when doing so many sessions with families. Here’s a few things I learned about photography and boys…
Photography and Boys
Boys will be Boys. Your kids will not cooperate every minute of the session. That’s expected! Little boys hate taking pictures and so they won’t always be the little angels they usually are. Just let them wiggle sometimes and run around for a while. Happy, silly, crazy boys is better than angry, sad, upset boys.
It’s hard to take good pictures of your own boys. They like to move around and hate sitting still for you. But don’t worry, that’s why photographers make the big bucks. When you let the photographer lead the session, it is likely to go smoother. (Boys are more likely to listen to strangers). We’ll make sure to get dozens of pictures to remember this stage of your crazy little ones’ lives.
Look at the camera instead of making sure your kids are looking. It will make things much easier for me to get them to look instead of you. That way the moment they turn, I’ll snap the shot. If you’re looking at them when that happens, it’s a missed opportunity. I know it goes against every instinct but it makes for great family pictures. Even if someone isn’t looking, we’ll make the most of it.
Things won’t always go the way you plan, but sometimes that makes for even more memorable pictures.
