Yesterday I witnessed a beautiful miracle. The miracle of modern medicine, amazing doctors, selfless acts of service and second chances. Bob and Ang flew in from New York last week to be here in time for the birth of their sweet baby boy. They’ve made this trip many times over the past several months for doctor’s appointments and meetings. Bob and Ang were connected to their surrogate mom, Terra, through an agency. Terra is incredible!! She has 2 children of her own and has delivered 4 (now 5) other babies for others. When I walked in, I was sure that she had an epidural. Her pitocin was up to a 6, she was dilated to 8cm and she was SMILING. No complaining, no screaming, no grunting. She would stop talking/smiling every few minutes to breath and then continue to be happy and amazing. I was in awe.
Bob and Ang’s first child was born at 34 weeks stillborn. She stood up one day while she was pregnant and completely blacked out. Bob called an ambulance when Ang said she couldn’t see anything. When she got to the hospital she was three minutes away from dying. She had to get a blood transfusion and nearly died on the operating table…twice. She was told she could no longer get pregnant with her broken uterus, so they turned to surrogacy. Their story of tragedy and loss led them to this beautiful day as they witness their beautiful son be born by their surrogate mother.
Terra moved through labor super quickly and all of a sudden started pushing. The doctor came running! Their sweet baby boy was born just minutes later. Watching them during the delivery was one of the most beautiful moments I have experienced. They were crying hysterically, full of joy and kept saying “thank you so much Terra.” It was a beautiful miracle.
Little baby L weighed in at 8lbs 5 oz and 20 inches long. His head was so perfect and round. And he was wide awake for us. His parents were infatuated with him.
