Finding a Balanced Summer Schedule
I spent a lot of summers working a nights and weekend job which meant I missed out or came late to A LOT of family stuff. I dont want to do that anymore.
I work REALLY hard a few days a week, so I can play play play the rest of the week. I want to be able to say yes to spontaneous playdates, sunny days at the pool, camping trips and any or all family time.
When you are a momprenuer, you have to make a shift every season.
What summer looks like for me:
NO PODCASTS
I love you guys SO much. But I know you are busy mom bosses too. Sometimes the best way to be present is to turn off the business books and podcasts, and just be. Listen to music, to nature, to your kids laughing and playing, to water splashing. I want you to enjoy the sounds of summer as much as I will. Taking a break from podcasting, and listening to podcasts for summer is a great way to find more mom and work balance.
Limited 1:1 coaching
Coaching fires my up like nothing else. But it’s also very time consuming. Between weekly calls, prep for each session, Voxer chats and more, it takes a lot of dedicated time. I want to be able to be fully committed to each coaching client, so I decided to take half of what I normally do this summer. Its been perfect. Just enough to fire me up and make a huge difference for these women that need to grind all summer. I will be opening up a lot more spots this fall.
Delegating
This summer I am delegating deep cleaning, laundry folding, lawn mowing and photography sessions to my team. I LOVE my job, and I actually don’t mind cleaning or chores. But I know where my time is most valuable right now. It’s definitely not in the laundry room.
A very controlled schedule
I have decided not to take any jobs on weekends from Friday through Sunday. There are a few exceptions to this rule but not many. I’ve also limited my work scheduled to 1 night per week MAX. Most months I will only be gone 2-3 nights TOTAL. That is a DREAM. I am limiting my schedule SOOO much. I know I will lose clients to competitors. But summer nights with my family mean so much to me!
In addition, I am packing 1-2 days a week with SO much work. Making my work days more full, more productive and more disciplined to allow for more days off. I work HARD. Turnaround things fast. Pack my days. Sometimes I don’t even eat until my work day is over because I have sooo much to pound out.
Summer hacks:
My goal is get out of the house every single day, and every single night. This could look like going to a park, playing in the backyard, a bbq, a hike, swimming, visiting cousins, ranger ride, walking the neighborhood, camping, community events, cabin, etc. Most of the time I give my kids a few choices and let them take the wheel.
I always have my swim bag, mountain bag and snack bag packed up so we are ready for spontaneous adventures.
